ANTICIPATED ROAD CLOSURES:

To accommodate event set-up and breakdown, intermittently road closures will begin on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. These road closures will reoccur on Friday, May 5, 2017 and Monday, May 8, 2017.

Northbound and southbound State Road A1A will be closed for thru traffic from the north side of Sunrise Blvd intersection to Northeast 14th Court of A1A on Saturday, May 6, 2017 and Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

RIVERWALK WATER TROLLEY:

Water Trolley service will not be affected.  This service will operate as scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

BEACH LINK:

Road closures will not affect the Beach Link route, but headways will be affected by traffic congestion and as a result, customers will experience longer than usual wait times. We will be providing service as scheduled daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

GALT LINK:

The Galt Link route will be affected by the road closure. Instead of using A1A to reach The Galleria Mall, the trolleys will travel on Oakland Park Blvd to Bayview Drive. As a result, the A1A corridor between Oakland Park Blvd and Sunrise Blvd will not receive Sun Trolley service. This modification will especially affect our regular Sun Trolley customers residing along NE 33rd Avenue, as well as the guests of Pelican Grand Beach Resort. The Galt Link service will operate during its normal days/times on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PARKING

Ford Lauderdale Air Show parking is available for pre-purchase in The Galleria Mall parking garage for $20 each day. Enter The Galleria Mall from east or westbound Sunrise Boulevard using Bayview Drive (NE 24 Avenue). Follow Bayview Drive south to NE 9 Street. Follow NE 9 Street east to the garage entrance. Sun Trolley Executive Board of Directors to Celebrate 25th Anniversary on May 8, 2017

Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 21, 2017) – The Sun Trolley is riding its way into a quarter century of service! The Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association (DFLTMA), that operates the Sun Trolley and Riverwalk Water Trolley, is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Monday, May 8, 2017, and it promises to be a special day full of incredible deals and plenty of fun.

To ring in its 25th year, the Sun Trolley is offering a shiny new fleet (complete with a new trolley smell) as well as the relaunched, easy-to-use website and free Sun Trolley Tracker App, which lets customers track each trolley in real-time. The new and highly successful 24/7 customer service hotline, 954-TROLLEY, is available for those who have any transportation-related questions. Trolleys are also available for charter services.

“Our goal is to continuously improve our customer service and ensure that each guest has an unparalleled experience on our quaint red and yellow trolleys,” said Robyn Chiarelli, Executive Director of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale TMA. “We at the TMA feel confident that our customers will enjoy our new and improved offerings before, after and during their one-of-a-kind trolley experience.”

In honor of the anniversary, on May 8 each trolley will be handing out sweet treats. Starting Monday, May 1 and for 25 days thereafter, one reason to ride the Sun Trolley will be posted daily on Facebook and twenty-five loyal riders will also be highlighted on the Sun Trolley’s website.

“We encourage all of our customers to join in on the fun on May 8 and give us feedback through Trip Advisor,” said Chiarelli. “We want to use this to continue improving and providing our services into the next 25 years.”

Founded in 1992, the Sun Trolley now provides community bus transportation to nearly 40,000 customers per month via seven routes, the Downtown Link, Galt Link, NW Community Link, Las Olas Link, Beach Link, Neighborhood Link and Airport Link. In October 2015 the DFLTMA partnered with the City of Fort Lauderdale and Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale to launch the free Riverwalk Water Trolley that transports an average of 10,000 customers per month across the New River.

Sun Trolley Board Chair Alan Hooper Nominated For Non-Profit Board Leader of The Year

Alan Hooper, Chair of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association (TMA) Board of Directors, has been selected as one of three finalists for Non-Profit Board Leader of the Year in the 7th Annual Community Care Plan Non-Profit Awards presented by 2-1-1 Broward.

The winner will be announced Friday, February 24, 2017 at an awards ceremony and luncheon at Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. Winners will receive a $1,000 grant to their organization, and up to two finalists will each receive a $500 grant. Finalists will also receive awareness and publicity for the mission of their organization through media materials, social media coverage, event press and newsletters.

“We are extremely proud of Alan for making it so far in the award selection process,” said Robyn Chiarelli, Executive Director of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale TMA. “We at the TMA feel that Alan embodies the qualities of a strong, accomplished and outstanding community leader.”

Since Hooper joined the Sun Trolley Board of Directors 12 years ago, the Sun Trolley fleet and service has grown substantially to 20 vehicles and eight routes. As part of fostering the growth of the system, Hooper helped launch the Riverwalk Water Trolley, the first on-demand boat shuttle service in Broward County. Also, Hooper’s leadership incited a new private charter service, launched last year, which is projected to provide a steady source of income for the TMA for years to come.

“Alan is a smart and strategic thinker with a deep-rooted connection to and passion for greater Fort Lauderdale,” said Chiarelli. “He figuratively and literally invests in his community.”

This is apparent through his 1991 founding of Hooper Construction, which has overseen 1.2 million square feet of redevelopment. He is also co-founder of The Restaurant People, a dining, entertainment and hospitality firm that owns and operates several venues and restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, including YOLO, Vibe Las Olas and Tarpon Bend Food & Tackle. In 2014, Hooper won the Sun Sentinel’s Excalibur Award for Small Business Leader of the Year in Broward County.

Currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Downtown Fort Lauderdale TMA administers community transportation services via the Sun Trolley’s seven routes and the free Riverwalk Water Trolley.
