Sun Trolley Executive Board of Directors to Celebrate 25th Anniversary on May 8, 2017

Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 21, 2017) – The Sun Trolley is riding its way into a quarter century of service! The Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association (DFLTMA), that operates the Sun Trolley and Riverwalk Water Trolley, is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Monday, May 8, 2017, and it promises to be a special day full of incredible deals and plenty of fun.

To ring in its 25th year, the Sun Trolley is offering a shiny new fleet (complete with a new trolley smell) as well as the relaunched, easy-to-use website and free Sun Trolley Tracker App, which lets customers track each trolley in real-time. The new and highly successful 24/7 customer service hotline, 954-TROLLEY, is available for those who have any transportation-related questions. Trolleys are also available for charter services.

“Our goal is to continuously improve our customer service and ensure that each guest has an unparalleled experience on our quaint red and yellow trolleys,” said Robyn Chiarelli, Executive Director of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale TMA. “We at the TMA feel confident that our customers will enjoy our new and improved offerings before, after and during their one-of-a-kind trolley experience.”

In honor of the anniversary, on May 8 each trolley will be handing out sweet treats. Starting Monday, May 1 and for 25 days thereafter, one reason to ride the Sun Trolley will be posted daily on Facebook and twenty-five loyal riders will also be highlighted on the Sun Trolley’s website.

“We encourage all of our customers to join in on the fun on May 8 and give us feedback through Trip Advisor,” said Chiarelli. “We want to use this to continue improving and providing our services into the next 25 years.”

Founded in 1992, the Sun Trolley now provides community bus transportation to nearly 40,000 customers per month via seven routes, the Downtown Link, Galt Link, NW Community Link, Las Olas Link, Beach Link, Neighborhood Link and Airport Link. In October 2015 the DFLTMA partnered with the City of Fort Lauderdale and Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale to launch the free Riverwalk Water Trolley that transports an average of 10,000 customers per month across the New River.

Sun Trolley Launches Summer Promotion Free Give-a-Ways on the Sun Trolley’s Galt Link

In December 2015, the Sun Trolley’s Galt Link expanded service to the Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Serving thousands of residents and tourists each month, the Sun Trolley’s Galt Link is rewarding its passengers with free give-a-ways.

“Our guests are our greatest asset and we want to show them our appreciation this summer by offering fun surprises,” said Executive Director of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale TMA Robyn Chiarelli.   Once on-board, our drivers provide passengers with various items from umbrellas, to cargo bags, reusable eco water bottles and many other gifts to simply make the journey even more enjoyable.”

Sun Trolley’s summer promotion runs now through September 30, 2016. Give-a-ways are limited to one gift per passenger.

The free Galt Link trolleys transport residents and tourists alike who are looking for transportation alternatives with a charming twist. The route starts at the Galleria Mall and travels northbound to Washington Avenue in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea hitting key destinations such as the Coral Ridge Mall and the Anglin Fishing Pier. Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“We are just so pleased to partner with the Sun Trolley,” said Vice Mayor Mark Brown, Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. “Not only does the Sun Trolley help us to move people more efficiently, offerings such as the Galt Link promotion better ensure residents and visitors here in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea have a special and fun experience while visiting our beachside town.”

An interactive map featuring the key stops and destinations, along with the Galt Link schedule are available via http://www.suntrolley.com/galt-link/. From the Sun Trolley’s Galt Link, guests can connect to the free Pelican Hopper, as well as Sun Trolley’s Beach and Las Olas Links. Please note that is $1 per ride or $3 for an all day pass on Sun Trolley’s Beach and Las Olas Links.

Just like hailing a cab, the Sun Trolley is a wave ‘n’ ride service. Just wave to the driver, from any safe location along the route, to signal that you would like to board. When you’re ready to get off, just let the driver know where along the route you would like to be dropped off. Sun Trolley’s Tracker APP Tops 10,000 Downloads

Sun Trolley’s ever-popular tracker app received its 10,000th download in August 2013. Launched in 2012, with the help of the Leadership Broward Class 30 Project team (Shea Smith, Peter Neirouz, Brandon Hensler, John Brown, Jana Lhota, April Kirk, Carlos Cervantes) this innovative tracker app is truly exceeding expectations.

“We are so thrilled that so many Sun Trolley passengers, residents and tourists alike, are utilizing the App to track the trolleys in real time,” states Patricia Zeiler, Executive Director.  “In response to the Tracker App’s success, we are planning to expand the app’s reach even further by integrating with Go Riverwalk’s event calendar and developing a desktop app that can be utilized by hotel concierges in Fort Lauderdale.”

Sun Trolley’s Tracker App, designed by Chris Caputo of Wilton Manors-based MetroMedia Works, literally “tracks” the location of all the Sun Trolleys across all seven routes in real time. GPS location services in the user’s smartphone allows the app to direct the passenger to the nearest Sun Trolley route where he or she can wave down one of the trolleys.

“I believe this app is so popular because its simple, easy to use interface offers the exact information the user is looking for,” states developer Chris Caputo. “In addition to the number of downloads, the app has been seeing high monthly usage rates, approximately 3,000 times per month because those who use the app use it frequently.”

Recently awarded the 2012 Travel Choices Innovative Program Award, the Sun Trolley Tracker app is available for download on your Android or Apple I-Phone.
