Community Appearance Awards 2015
Community Appearance Awards 2015
The Community Appearance Board was established by the Fort Lauderdale City Commission in 1978. The board is dedicated to developing, implementing and promoting programs and initiatives that improve and enhance the overall community appearance of the City of Fort Lauderdale.
The board’s mission is, “To promote an aesthetic environment through the recognition of outstanding urban design with an awards program that is based on our heritage of preservation and its stewardship for present and future generations.”
Community Appearance Awards
The Community Appearance Awards are presented each year to encourage aesthetic awareness and to acknowledge individuals and organizations who are working to enhance, improve and beautify the Fort Lauderdale community.
The Community Appearance Awards recognize homeowners, architects, landscapers and developers for their individual efforts to enhance the City’s visual image and economic vitality. Neighborhood associations are recognized for projects that positively affect the area of the association. Since the program’s inception in 1978, hundreds of commercial buildings, office towers, residences, and landscape improvements have been nominated for awards. Sponsorship of the program comes from the community in the form of corporate and private donations, as well as from the City of Fort Lauderdale.

West Broward Blvd Downtown to Be Temporarily Closed on July 22-27

West Broward Blvd Downtown to Be Temporarily Closed on July 22 – 27
Crews working for All Aboard Florida, the express, intercity passenger rail service owned by Florida East Coast Industries, will temporarily close the intersection of West Broward Boulevard and the Florida East Coast Railway in order to work on sections of the railroad tracks as the next step in preparations for the construction of the new 60,000-square foot Fort Lauderdale station.
The intersection will be closed at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, and remain closed until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015. Crews from the locally-owned company Gonzalez & Sons will be installing a new railroad track panel and about 120 feet of new track parallel to the existing track. This work is necessary to keep freight rail operations going as All Aboard Florida constructs the new station.

When the intersection work is completed, a new bypass track will allow freight train traffic to continue through the area as the station is built where the existing line now sits.
