Rider Alerts for Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27, 2014

photo-43_361Service on all of the Sun Trolley’s routes, except the Riverwalk Water Trolley route, will be suspended in observance of Thanksgiving. The Riverwalk Water Trolley will operate from 6 to 11 p.m. Regular services will resume on all eight routes on Friday, November 28, 2014.

The Sun Trolley offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28, 2014.

Sun Trolley’s Neighborhood Link and NW Community Link Routes Amended – Effective December 1, 2014

Due to the upcoming All Aboard Florida railroad project, which will provide commuter rail service along the FEC railway, there will be closures on NW 2nd Street. The Sun Trolley’s NW Community Link and Neighborhood Link will need to amend their routing due to this closure.

Below is a brief outline of the changes, which will become effective December 1, 2014.

NW Community Link Current Route

  • Southbound on NW 7th Ave.
  • Eastbound on NW 4th St.
  • Southbound on NW 6th Ave.
  • Eastbound on NW 2nd St.
  • Southbound on NW 1st Ave.

NW Community Link Amended Route

  • Southbound on NW 7th Ave.
  • Eastbound on NW 4th St.
  • Southbound on NW 1st Ave.

Neighborhood Link Current Route

  • Southbound on NW 6th Ave.
  • Eastbound on NW 2nd St.
  • Southbound on NW 1st Ave.

Neighborhood Link Amended Route

  • Southbound on NW 6th Ave.
  • Eastbound on NW 4th St.
  • Southbound on NW 1st Ave.

Expect Detours Along Las Olas Link Route During Connecting the Blocks Painted Intersection Event this Saturday, November 15, 2014

There will be detours along the Las Olas Link route this Saturday, November 15, 2014, as the intersection at East Las Olas Boulevard and S.E. 3rd Avenue is brought to life with vibrant color during the Connecting the Blocks Painted Intersection Event.

Route Detour Information

  • The intersection of East Las Olas blvd. and SE 3rd Ave. will be closed from 5 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m.
  • The westbound link will be re-routed onto Broward Boulevard between US-1 and 5th Avenue.
  • The eastbound link will be re-routed onto Broward Boulevard between Andrews Avenue and US-1.

The Painted Intersection Project

The City of Fort Lauderdale launched the Painted Intersection Project to help calm traffic and assist pedestrians and bicyclists with safely navigating to and from their destinations through a colorful art display. Neighbors, visitors, business owners, and students are invited to help paint the intersection this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To register as a volunteer, please contact Jorg Hruschka at (954) 828-5568 or jhruschka@fortlauderdale.gov.

The first two painted intersections were installed on May 31, 2014 at East Las Olas Boulevard and S.E. 1st Avenue and July 12, 2014 at East Las Olas Boulevard and S.E. 2nd Avenue. Open Streets events temporarily close streets to vehicles for public recreational activities that provide everyone with full access to walk, bicycle, dance, play, rollerblade, skateboard, jog, socialize, or enjoy other activities in a safe, car-free environment.
Mark your calendar and plan to spend an afternoon celebrating E. Las Olas Boulevard, building community, and participating in the fun, family-friendly outdoor activities being presented at Open Streets Fort Lauderdale.
