With Mobile Apps being all the rage, the Sun Trolley hopped on the cool train to develop and launch its mobile tracker app with the help of the Leadership Broward Class 30 Project team in 2012.This innovative tracker app that literally “tracks” the location of all the Sun Trolleys across all seven routes in real time, was presented with the 2012 Travel Choices Innovative Program Award on Friday, April 12, 2013.
The Innovative Program Award is awarded to a Florida public transportation system, commuter assistance program, transportation management organization or other Florida entity that has designed and implemented specific public transportation-related programs that demonstrate innovative concepts or effective problem-solving techniques.
“With three other fantastic nominees in this category, we are honored that our tracker app has received this award,” states Patricia Zeiler, Sun Trolley’s Executive Director. “In the wake of the mobile apps’ successes, we are currently working on launching a desktop app so that hotel and local business representatives can offer additional assistance to our passengers.”
The Florida Travel Choices Awards are sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The FDOT seeks to provide a safe transportation system that ensures the mobility of people and goods, enhances economic prosperity and preserves the quality of our environment and communities.
Applications for this award were due January 31, 2013. The Sun Trolley was presented with this award on April 12, 2013 at the University of South Florida in conjunction with the Florida Commuter Choice Summit and Southeast TDM Symposium.
